Drills To Enhance Punching Power
Punching bags are favorite to bodybuilders and sportsmen. Punching bag has properties that make it a great training partner. It is strong, big and heavy and even durable. It is designed so to test the power of the punches coming at it. It is a great exercise to make hand muscles strong and make punches powerful. You can even use a punching bag to develop punch accuracy, punching speed and punching endurance. If you are looking for new methods to practice with your punching bag, whether it be a free standing bag or hanging heavy bag there are some techniques and drills you must follow in order to get better results.
Try realistic punches which you could actually use for the match. Instead of charging up and then punching, try back to back punches as you would do in a match. It’s better to develop the strength which would last an entire match, that too punching properly. Rather than wasting time and strength, use techniques that would actually take you somewhere. Try using techniques that would enhance muscle memory. Remember a number for every punch and use combinations of it while training. This will help you get control over your muscles and train you to change punches swiftly.
The best way to get endurance is to resist the power in your punches and focus on just the number of punches. If you add power along with the volume, it might start to seem like the power testing drill. You should only focus on the number of punches you can throw in a given time. This will not take much of your energy and would not seem to be a workout. However, this works great for your muscle memory so as to make your muscles more used to contraction. This will, of course, help you big time in the match.
Related: Improve Punching Speed Again, in this exercise, focus on proper breathing. Correct breathing is the key to enhance your techniques. If you feel its too much pressure, you can even lift your legs while training. Take help from someone to hold the bag while you punch. Try changing levels on which you punch, for instance, head level, stomach level, and waist level.
You can punch normally while training footwork, but the point is to keep moving around your punching bag. On punching, wherever it swings, change positions with it instead of waiting for the punching bag to return to you.
The most important thing to remember is that the punching bag has to be used for enhancing all your punches, not just the power punches. Focus on every punch equally; speed, endurance, power, etc. The power you attain while training should be used in matches. Let your punches express your strength and power and win you your matches
